The Voglesongers

Judith’s home is not only where she raises her family; it’s also where she runs her business. The walls are covered with beautiful pieces of art from artists all over the country, and they are all for sale. It’s an inspiring and colorful space.

But all the paintings and watercolors and photographs cannot compare to Judith’s three masterpieces. They have magnificent smiles and knowing eyes.

The Yerkes Family

Each year, in the month of June, we get an opportunity to celebrate fathers. This year, my Father’s Day began with a morning shoot with this great father and his family.

For just over two years, I had the pleasure of working with Katie. Our office would not have been the same without her energy and her laughter. She is full of joy and life and creativity, and I’m awfully glad I get to be her friend. I think Jon is glad he gets to be her husband.

A Day At The Farm

There’s a farm in a tiny town in South Carolina that’s owned by a farmer who loves his cows. It’s a place full of memories for the family that has gathered here over the years. A place where your day is marked by the position of the sun in the sky rather than the position of the hands on the clock. A place where the soundtrack is the gentle moo of the cows and the breeze rustling through the trees. A place that’s hot and sticky and full of beauty.

“A farm includes the passion of the farmer’s heart” – Joel Salatin

Jennifer and Joe

It wasn’t about the flowers. It wasn’t about the cake. It wasn’t about the rings.

This was a day about family.

Jennifer and Joe’s wedding day was planned with their family in mind. It was to be held in the nursing home so that Jennifer’s wheelchair bound mother could be in attendance. They hired a photographer so that the day could be shared with family on the west coast. Jennifer’s three youngest grandchildren were invited to be a part of the ceremony as bridesmaids and ring bearer. And Jennifer insisted on throwing her bouquet so that her eldest granddaughter could have the pleasure of catching it.

The bride’s first order of business was to tend to the needs of her youngest bridesmaid. She was so gentle with the hairbrush, making sure not to hurt her granddaughter’s head.

Joe is now the newest official member of this family. I would say that he fits right in.

Congratulations Jennifer and Joe!

Dorothy

This sweet girl is one I have wanted to photograph long before she was ever here. She has been prayed for by an army of friends and family for years. And her December 16th arrival was a glorious day. I’m so excited for my friends who get to be her parents.

It is my pleasure to introduce you to Miss Dorothy Rae Teppig.

There is so much joy on both of their faces in this next picture. Please get a good look at Dorothy’s little dimples. I can hardly stand it.

The Pays

Sarah and Joe are raising three boys. Their world of climbing trees and building forts is totally foreign to me. I grew up in a house full of women. My three sisters and I wore dresses and hair bows and collected Barbies. It was a world of painted fingernails and ballet slippers where our prized possession was a two-story dollhouse.

One rainy morning in December I got a taste of what it’s like to be in a house full of boys. This family makes it look like a lot of fun.

When we had finished shooting pictures, the boys were treated to eggnog and waffles. When Sarah told them they could make whipped cream to go on top, I decided this breakfast had to be photographed. They were kind enough to let me stick around, and I’m so glad I did because these are some of my favorite pictures of my time with the Pays.

The Tuttles

Life with two young girls is busy. Schedules are full and the days fly by. We had a quick window of time between the end of the school day and the winter sun’s early departure. In a short photo session, I got a pretty big picture of how sweet and silly and smart these two sisters are.

These two are a testament to the hard work their mama has done to raise them well.

I’m always so thankful for families who allow me to spend time with them.
